Rox is our first character we've made for the SMP.

Rox is a curious Lepteran, that works for UNITE. They're a scientist, here for a 'vacation' from the chaotic work they do in the lab and with the higher ups at UNITE. Seen a lot, done a lot, needs a break.

Primarily here just to have fun.

Appearance

Rox's appearance is primarily based off of an Oakworm moth. They have yellow orange-ish skin, sharp straight nose, 4 eyes: 2 big bug eyes and 2 smaller ones just above it near the nose. They wear square framed golden glasses, have a chip in their right ear from a childhood accident with their brother.

They have dark brown hair, yellow fluffy moth antenna on the top of their head, and have like bug ears?? As well as they have a scruffy almost goatee type of beard.

They wear a muted red sweater with a button up underneath, with a lab coat overtop of it all. Under their lab coat but above their sweater is a burnt orange long sweater they wear sometimes. Their pants are dark brown long ribbed flowy pants, almost looking like a skirt at times. They wear regular sneakers that are the same color as their burnt orange sweater!

Personality

Rox tends to keep to themselves. (Though we may forget to mute our mic in game.)

They're curious to a fault, they want to know information, see things, learn. They LOVE learning.

The sections below about Rox's life is basically me info dumping so I am able to maintain primary information about Rox. It may be in weird orders, the order may change, information may contradict itself! We are a SYSTEM (DID/OSDD System) So, this place can help us keep information straight.

Also note, I am not good at dialogue, so I did try my best. May add more later when its not 1 am.

Early Life

I think Rox is one of those kids who you’re worried about when they go quiet. The issue is, they’re always quiet. So if you can’t see em, they might be lighting something on fire or playing with chemicals. Rox as a child has always been a very ‘keep to themselves’ kinda kid, if they ever struggled with something they try their fucking hardest to keep it a secret, which follows into their adult life now. Their parents would believe everything is fine, focusing more on Rox’s siblings than them because Rox never seemed to have issues. Every time teachers or adults would inform their parents that Rox is indeed struggling, all they’d do is point to Rox’s excellent behavior and grades and say there’s nothing wrong, and then go on discussing about an actual “problem child” who isn’t actually an issue, just expressed their struggles more.

Rox further in life would start to express the fact they do struggle with things, even going so far as to ask for help, but it is rare and they are rather quiet. Finding out that they are trans somewhere around middle school, and fully socially transitioning in high school.

they liked the quiet, underground nature of UNITE, and it allows them to pursue their interests that they’ve always had: Science.

The Deep Lore

Something happens that changes your character forever...

Rox, after their struggling in high school socially, excelled in scientific areas. They won many many science fairs, and even toured some science centers. UNITED had their eye on Rox for quite a long time.

Rox even excelled in science when they were in college, they did intern work, they were usually top of their class, and wanted to specifically study Biology.

Rox would sometimes share classes with [REDACTED], and was a big fan of Bluebell's written works but never really interacted with much outside of professors and other top rated students, still preferring to keep to themselves.

After College, Rox starts applying for positions, jobs, internships, anything. They apply for UNITE, who.. seem to be almost without hesitation, accepts and Rox starts working for UNITE, the well known science division of The Hive.

Rox meets their partner, [REDACTED]. Who they seem to get along with quite well! The two work tirelessly on their biology assignments and documentation. Rox seems to show a great interest and curiosity towards the RAID, which secretly, UNITE was already working on trying to harness and use the RAID in ways to either combat it or use it to help better society.

Rox, after around 3 years of working for UNITE, eventually gets proper clearance to start working on making strains of the RAID for UNITE. Them and Their partner, again, work tirelessly, trying anything they can imagine, day in and day out, long endless days at the lab, Rox would sometimes sleep at the office.

Until they do it.

They succeed.

They make a working strain.

THE AMBROSIA STRAIN

The two rush to continue testing, to continue to see if they can replicate their findings and.. they can. After MONTHS of endless, sleepless nights, diligent, determined nights; the two managed to do it.

The two rush to find a higher up, schedule a meeting, Rox and [REDACTED] are in and out of meetings, over and over, so much it'll make your head spin. [REDACTED] always handled people better.

Rox has never been more proud, so proud of the curiosity and their brain being useful, this was the win they needed. This is exactly what they wanted and, by god they would never want to stop. This life, the lab, the knowledge, the endless things they could experiment with, it was vast and unknowable and by god will they be the one to know it. They wish so desperately to become so intimately close with the unknowable that it becomes known. Known to them. Used by them.

Rox and [REDACTED] start prepping for the demonstration that the higher ups asked for, to see it in its true form, to show them it really truly works. This is THEIR moment, THEIR chance to help change the world.

There had been talks about needing a Chitaran volunteer, a live humanoid subject for this demonstration. The deadline is closing in, they're running out of time for one to show up. Of course no one would want to be a live experiment. But this is their life's work, their chance.

[REDACTED] walks into the room and states that they're still in need of a volunteer.

Rox states "UNITED will find a volunteer. That's not their area of expertise."

"I.. I know Rox, but, I offered to be the subject!"

Rox dropped the beaker they were handling on the floor. "It'll completely change you [REDACTED]! You can't, YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T"

"I know it'll change me but I want to be just as committed to this project as you are! YOU SLEEP IN HERE."

"YOU ARE COMMITTED TO THIS PROJECT [REDACTED]! YOU HELPED ME SO MUCH! Without you would've NEVER been able to make it in the first place!"

"That's not true! It would've just taken you a little longer!"

"We don't know that for sure!"

"WHY WON'T YOU JUST LET ME DO MY PART ROX?"

"BECAUSE I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU!"

A silence clung to the air, so tightly that you could feel it against your bones.

"So.. no. I won't let you be the volunteer, end of story. You.. mean too much to me. You're my best friend."

".. got it. ..... I got a meeting in a couple minutes.. i'll uh... talk to ya later." [REDACTED] grabbed their bag and walked away, awkwardness hanging in the air.

Rox walked them walk away, hoping, pleading, begging it was enough. That their mind is changed, that maybe the two can truly stay like this forever.

Fate is not that kind.

At a random meeting, UNITE states that they have found them a volunteer. [REDACTED] is more than pleased and, Rox's mind is at ease, focusing on making sure the strain is really ready to go.

Days turn to hours, turn into seconds before the demonstration.

The two made sure everything was ready to go a couple days prior, and it seems [REDACTED] had gotten sick. Rox wasn't too broken up about it, the two of them have been stressing themselves over this demonstration for WEEKS. So, the body does truly take a toll.

Rox, specifically choosing to have never met the volunteer because they didn't want to feel bad for doing this to someone. This will weigh hard enough on their conscience, knowing them will only make it worse.

Rox welcomed the group of shareholders, sponsors, ceo's, and many other higher more powerful people than Rox.

"Welcome! Welcome all. This is the first official demonstration for the NEW RAID STRAINS! Something me and my lovely lab partner: [REDACTED] have been working on for quite some time. This strain is the AMBROSIA STRAIN! Now lets meet our volunteer!" Rox smiled gleefully, as they turned around and clapped as they watched [REDACTED] walk into the test chamber.

Rox stares at them, stunned, mortified, feeling a wash of betrayal, guilt, regret, a feeling of not being enough. Was life with Rox not enough for [REDACTED]?

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THERE?!"

"I told you, I volunteered"

"YOU TOLD ME YOU DIDN'T, THAT THEY FOUND SOMEONE ELSE!"

"I never said that Rox, I just.. knew you wouldn't have let this happen if I said something. This is what I want"

"HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT I WANT??"

"Rox not now, we can discuss it later."

"YOU KNOW WE CAN'T!!"

"Rox. Please. Continue. This is what I want."

"No. No I won't."

"Yes, Please, It's what I want. I want to see this to completion. For us, to see it to completion."

Rox grit their teeth, and huffed.

"This is.. [REDACTED] Our wonderful volunteer. They will now allow the strain to begin its mutation." Rox, sighed, with nothing but utter defeat in their voice.

Staring at her as the mutation took over, as she turned into a giant.. dog.. like dragon looking monster. Truly nothing more than a beast. Screaming, sobs, cries of agony and pain filled and echoed in that chamber. Rox still hears it in their nightmares. They feel tears start to well up in their eyes, in that moment realizing they have lost the one person they truly loved, who understood them on so many levels; only for them to hold the tears back.

Rox continues with the demonstration. Finishing it because there's truly no going back. There's no undo button, there's no FIXING this. Going through the motions, truly seeing her face in this monster Rox has created.

After the demonstration Rox sits in that test chamber and stares at their best friend, their partner, wondering where they went wrong. There is beauty in this form; but the beautiful parts of them are gone. Nothing but a physical husk left.

Raeya is gone.

Rox is praised for the successful demonstration and encouraged to continue, so they do. They work and work and work, throwing themself into it, hoping and begging that ache in the back of their mind will go away.

Eventually Rox becomes apart of that crowd of shareholders, sponsors, ceo's, and higher more powerful people, watching some demonstrations themselves, from younger scientists. Mentoring them and helping to create 2 new strains.

Endless working.

Until they decided they've had enough.

Locus Astra

Rox notices a chance to leave, a break, a vacation, a chance to breathe.

They take it.

Getting on the ship to the Locus Astra in search for a 'vacation'

CUBE, did not like that decision.

Relationships

Rox's and [REDACTED]'s relationship can truly be summed up by the word "close". The two were set as partners when they first arrived at UNITE, both working towards the same goal. Similar backgrounds, similar ages, both had so much energy and life in their eyes! Truly remarkable what the two of them could do when they put their minds to it.
