Pronounced “peh-lah-gee-ah”, Pelagia is an ocean world without a horizon, its surface broken only by the rare islands and towering structures that rise and descend through the depths. Civilization here is vertical, stratified by pressure, light, and purpose. At the sunlit surface, the Lucent Stratum, vibrant coral megacities serve as clusters of diplomacy, trade, and cultural identity. Below, in the dim twilight zones of the Twilight Stratum, massive industrial complexes churn endlessly, forming the backbone of Pelagia’s technological power. In the crushing dark of the deep sea, in the Noct Stratum, hidden research enclaves and fortified installations push the boundaries of science and secrecy. The Thalassans, masters of engineering and adaptation, have built a society that thrives under constant environmental strain. The Abyssal, deep below, shroud their existence in mystery.

Geography and Environment

Pelagia is entirely covered in oceans, with all of its life being sustained underwater. Environments underwater can range from tropical coral reefs to deep trenches.

There are few islands on Pelagia, and most are relatively small, typically being used to receive travelers from other planets or spheres.

Pelagia holds many cities, all at varying depth and location to accommodate the many different variations. Variations that prefer depth and cold live in cities closer to the poles in the many trenches that carve Pelagia's surface, variations that prefer warmth live closer to he equator at floating surface cities. The variations that prefer to live in wetlands tend to live in the more rural patches of land that speckle the planet. However, the capital city of Pelagia named Coralia houses the widest variations of Thalassan and even many Abyssals. Most Abyssals wander solitarily, with only some grouping up into Nomadic wanderers utilizing temporary structures to assist in herding.

Coralia is a bustling central city close to the equator, in a calm belt of ocean. The city stretches vertically from the top of the surface all the way to the bottom of the ocean. Each section attempting to accommodate as many intraspecific variations as they can. The city rises like a colossal tower from the depths to the surface. Much of the surface sections are used for spacecraft landing and transport of goods and individuals. The city houses many important businesses headquarter locations, like ZetaChem. It is a colossus of engineering and capitalism.

Stellar Information

Pelagia is located in the Deeptide system.

Pelagia's three moons form a tightly interacting tidal system that never repeats in the same configuration twice. The constant variation of ocean movements is part of why Pelagia developed such a distinct stratified structure.

Pelagia has one ring, a thin halo of ice and water vapor that circles the planet vertically, continuously replenished by the planet's water cycle. It is nearly invisible, a ghostly band that on occasion catches the light.

Notable Historical Events

Sometimes, things crash into Pelagia from the neighboring Deeptide energy field and slip beneath the waves. Numerous interesting and esoteric discoveries have been made on this planet.
