Not much is known about the individual who calls themself "Phantom." While they have a reputation as a traveling musician performing shows under the name "Midnight's Phantom," appearances of the star of this act outside of the stage are often no more than rumors, all until arriving onto Locus Astra greeting themself as this persona.

Appearances

Throughout the past several years, when "Midnight's Phantom" shows would pop up on a new planet or sphere, the performer's appearance is cited to be noticeably different than seen before.

For example, during Virilune performances, Phantom is described as having a floral and natural attire, while Stratos appearances were dark and gritty, and Singulon appearances were bright and metallic.

Although there are constants in these appearances, large fanciful cloaks and bright multi-lensed glasses being staples adapted in their different outfits, as well as their noticeable physical features, most noticeably having an extra pair of arms, fuzzy dark grey fur, multiple bright purple eyes, and a rounded bulb like tail.

Phantom's physical traits are noticeably odd, while their rumored origin of Chitara would imply them to be a Lepteran, their physical which often imply to the unfamiliar that they could be a native species of the planets/spheres they've been seen on. Their fluffy fur, tail, and ears have given impressions on being a Canari, Their solid avian-like lower legs and claws resemble something a Caelune would possess, and their metal costume on Singulon has been compared to a more animalistic Ferran frame.

Currently on Locus Astra, their appearance mirrors what Chitara accounts rumor for them to appear as, with a hooded black cloak with bright purple and pinks that stand out in the dark.

History

On Chitara

While early information is murky before the surge of "Midnight's Phantom" underground popularity in Virilune 5 years ago, there have been multiple accounts of there being fans of their work locally on Chitara before those appearances.

Claims of seeing a show of Phantom's 6-8 years ago persists mostly by sketchy Lepteran or Carcid individuals, however, there is a noticeable amount of supporting claims by more trustworthy non-native figures who had traveled to Chitara during these years.

Performances are described as much more casual then people would later come to expect, a passive narrative driven accompaniment that had powerful impact on those who tuned in more closely, but from afar was described as a soft and calming presence.

The location of performances during these years are unknown, with all major or minor venue throughout all Chitara having no record of "Midnight's Phantom" ever being there, however the existence of recorded audio of "Midnight's Phantom" songs during this time implies a live atmosphere through bootleg quality audio and a noticeable crowd ambiance, the retrospective conclusion is that wherever these performances were, shut down after the phantom's disappearance from Chitara.

On Virilune

"Midnight's Phantom" quickly become notable after their first shows in Virilune. They arrived as an unexpected guest appearance as the finale to one "Festival of Yet Again," an outside gathering of majority artistic Felari folk honoring the dead by showing the impact of those who they have lost and how their cycles continue through various artistic mediums.

This performance is often referred to and titled as "Goodbye Midnight, a New Day Begins," which starts of similarly to what both Phantom's Chitaran reputation and festival standards of a more lowkey, folksy acoustic set. While this part of the performance is admired in it's own right, it would only properly describe the first half or the "Goodbye Midnight" act of the performance.

"a New Day Begins" is often described as a single, metamorphic song, hatched from the ending of "Goodbye Midnight." It dove deep into building an atmospheric environment from repetitive interwoven layers which slowly built to something grand out of nothing at all. There are sections of this song which tear from this structure and create pockets of sections of their own, these sections describe accounts of different ways of moving on from someone great who was lost, there are various theories and connections made from the details, mannerisms, and motifs of these sections mapping to different songs in the "Goodbye Midnight" section.

The reputation of this show alone would garner a cult-like musical following on Virilune, often reactions split from being obsessively interested or not really getting it. After the first show, "Midnight's Phantom" shows would pop up in isolated spaces once a month for around a years time, each show gaining a lot of attention due to the novelty and scarcity of this phantom figure, and the excitement of something new which would be shown in each show, all described as unique from the last.

These shows are often referred to as "(number). Day of X", most well regarded of which being "VI. Day of the Garden Lost" and "VIII. Day of Dusted Decay."

On Stratos

Stratos, particularly the Sonyx districts, is where talk of this Phantom spread most outside of Virilune. After nearly a year disappearance from the public eye, it drove great traction when "Midnight's Phantom" was to star at one of the most sought after locations, the "Burning Star Stadium."

While this first show does not have a title or reputation like the phantom's first show of Virilune, general success and estimated profits of "Midnight's Phantom" shows rose exponentially, as well as the frequency of shows with unexpected surprise experience in smaller areas, which rose the popularity of coming to smaller underground venues sizably during this period.

The sound of "Midnight's Phantom" on Stratos seemed to double down on the intensity that Virilune performances would build towards and use noise and a heavier sound as a more general atmosphere. Sonically it could almost be described inversely to those earlier performances, where this heaviness would lead into brief oasis's of light clarity which is where narrative would seep into the tracks, however, many would enjoy these songs for atmosphere alone.

On Singulon

When "Midnight's Phantom" made their way to Singulon, with the reputation by this point, became a temporary commodity/personal performer to a few key Ferran families. Due to the private nature of these performances, details are merely speculation.

However, it can be noted that the phantom would mysteriously appear in smaller local districts on a whim, performing in bars or abandoned buildings for whoever may pass by and visit.

Due to the phantom's costume being an imitation of well crafted frame as well as the insular nature of the Ferran communities unknowing to "Midnight's Phantom" as a musician, references to this figure are often instead nicknamed as the "Empty Heirloom," as they were assumed to be a recently cast down musical Ferran, with features like a back crank that would move as they sang and bright digital eyes that many would intuit their status as an old toy to the upper class.

In addition, the "Empty Heirloom" name also referred to their silence outside of performances and the use of the "This frame is empty" phrase. As well as the term Heirloom doubling as Air Loom, with the spider-like appearance of this assumed Ferran being one of a spider with a profound ability to bend sound in what felt like a magical way, making a loom of the air around them.

If these "Empty Heirloom" appearance speak for phantom's sound at the time, atmosphere and emotion ran dominant over anything that could be describe as coherent, seemingly the 'Ferran' was thought to have a bit crushing effect installed into their words, which made it hard to understand the true nature of what was being said without diligent focus, however even acoustic sounds played from the Air Loom's instrument would bend into something digital mid transmission, creating a control chaos that would allure many passers-by.

Due to the unsafe nature of locations this "Empty Heirloom" would be found, notable encounters existed of fights breaking out around or even targeted at the heirloom, however, conflict would end swiftly around this heirloom, a surge of magic coming from an unknown source quickly incapacitating any agitators. As stories of these happenings spread, worried Ferrans would seek out the heirloom's performances when possible for a sense of safety, which then sprouted several devote local followings of this figure.

Mysteriously though as the "Empty Heirloom" persona was at it's peak of popularity, the figure would disappear once more much earlier than they had on other planets, this coincided with Ferran families no longer housing "Midnight's Phantom" for undisclosed reasons, which would unceremoniously mark the last heard of this Phantom figure in the months before the Pathfinding Initiative.

Personality

While before Locus Astra Phantom's mannerisms were known as either silent or undeterminable, the Phantom on Locus Astra is rather personable and helpful. Although it is hard to tell as appearances thus far have been sparse and tempered within more crowded spaces.

To those who have spoken more closely with Phantom, There is an oscillation between three main patterns of being, firstly observant and spacey, secondly analytical analytical and coldly logical or recounting stories they've observed, or lastly simply mirroring behaviorism they pick up on from those they speak with.

Relationships

Bramble

As a fellow performer, Phantom has great interest in Bramble's ways of showmanship and as well as an interest in wanting to help with performances to even performing alongside Bramble.

Phantom wishes to know what it truly means to be a 'fool.'

Hyacinth

While both Phantom and Hyacinth have kept to themself, they seem to get along and have gone on a few adventures together as to get away from a more crowded space.

Phantom wishes to learn more about Hyacinth, and has spent time trying to clear their mind to remember a story their brief recalling has reminded Phantom of.

Nova

Supposed "Dearest Dearest Mining Buddies," they seem to hold a strong bond from their excavation trips together.

Phantom often refers to these mines itself calling out, and assumes Nova has a similar understanding when they affirm and repeat this sentiment.

Jelly

While the two haven't done much together, they often seem happy in each other's presence. Spinning around and exclaiming "Friend!" to each other before departing once more.

Aris

Phantom has spent a sizeable amount of time helping Aris with the city they've been constructing, while the two have yet to speak personally very much, Phantom often pops out around places Aris has been and claims them to be a neighbor.

Lerinov

Titled as a "Masked Companion" by Phantom, is a big fan of Leri's cooking (shawarma) and someone Phantom would like to learn from in both culinary and arcane aspects.

Laythe

They met in a tree and saw that their glasses matched and now they are besties #realandtruestories

Yvelle

Phantom is currently helping Yvelle through magical research after their time spent alone learning the magic they themself can harness on Locus Astra.
