"I may be dumb, but I have an idea." — Alec

Alec is a Thalassan mechanic and inventor from the world Pelagia. He is a factory operator for the Pao-Yang guild. He was inducted into the guild at the same time Ariane was and is mostly there to pick up new tinkering techniques and to show off his expertise.

Appearance

A fish boy whose appearance resembles a lionfish with spines for hair and fins adorning his forearms and legs. He has a scar bridging his face from a particularly uncooperative invention and a flying piece of scrap metal. He wears a jumpsuit with overalls on top for efficiency over fashion to reach and store his tools easier.

History

Early Life

Alec is a Thalassan hailing from the world of Pelagia. He grew up alone never knowing his parents. In his early years he resorted to snatching food from stalls to survive. Ever since he can remember he has been surrounded by technological marvels of every kind one can imagine and some that you can't even imagine in his home in the Twilight Stratum. Being constantly surrounded by the razor edge of technological advancement as well as social norms Alec was instilled with a deep interest in inventing and an insatiable thirst for learning more about whirring gears and whistling engines. After his knowledge reached a low professional level he switched to selling creations instead of stealing. As Alec grew up his interest developed into an almost addictive craving for advancement and did anything in his grasp to test new and groundbreaking ideas even if the fallout could lead to his own detriment. This lust for advancement left him with more than a few scars and burn marks that acted like a ledger of all his failed experiments and inventions gone wrong.

Comet and Pao-Yang

After years of building frustration due to failed gadgets and not even being able to leave his name in the footnotes of history an interesting guest entered the door of his shop looking for supplies. A Ferran while not common wasn't the weirdest thing that had ever walked into his store but their story was where they had Alec's interest. Exiled from their home world they had outfitted a comet with tech and were riding it across the universe. This almost laughable tale piqued his interest and so not really having anything tying him down to Pelagia, Alec asked to join for the journey. He decided seeing more of the known universe could give inspiration to new ideas and there could be worse ways to spend the journey than with a like minded tinker. After getting confirmation he was welcome Alec grabbed a few essentials and set out with the one he learned was named Ariane. The two floated across the stars on the comet, modifying it with all sorts of machines and over time they became good friends. Eventually a traveling merchant showed up and offered a spot on their ship and seeing as it didn't hamper any of his goals Alec decided to join the growing merchants guild.

Arriving on Locus Astra

With Pao-Yang smelling profit to be gained from the venture to Locus Astra, the guild sent 5 members on the original voyage to the anchor. Alec is among the members and has been tasked with setting up automation of basic materials to fuel the material reserves for larger projects. During the pathfinders trip to the hellish sphere dubbed the nether by the jester Bramble he met a man by the name of Shay who seemed to have integrated with the sculk which was something Alec had been previously interested in. Seeing a kindred spirit Alec offered Shay some warden meat and was subsequently mistaken as a warrior from their religion. Alec tried to go along with it but was quickly noticed on his lies. After returning to the locus astra sphere shay gave Alec a gift before returning to his home in the north. Later after the ban on interacting with sculk they spoke briefly again about walking the path and calming sculk using a ritual. During the ensuing meeting between the perils, pao yang, and shay Alec was upset by how galena treated the sculk as just a tool for profit and blatant disregard for it being a seemingly sentient being and after talking about it after the meeting was fired due to conflicting beliefs. Afterwards Alec turned to the perils for temporary shelter and is now starting construction on a town situated between the path's location and anchor to signify a neutral ground and hopeful a place of peace between sculk and pathfinder.

Personality

Alec is a friendly gear-brained scatterminded guy who loves to talk about machinery and likes to meet new people but if the conversation steers towards magic or boring small talk then hes more than likely going to zone out. He holds no interest in magic since it cant be explained easily like contraptions and science can be. Willing to talk or take building jobs from anybody who asks but try to cut an unfair deal or mess with his factory and he will hold that grudge forever.

Relationships

Ariane

The first pathfinder Alec knew from back on his homeworld Palegia and his best friend. She has stuck around through Pao Yang and sculk so he trusts her deeply. He also finds her to be very reliable in factory building having seen her work firsthand for months on end. From a less business oriented viewpoint she is someone Alec can spend hours talking to about nonsense while working. Alec's most trusted pathfinder.

Galena

Galena is Alec's previous boss and leader of the Pao-Yang. Their relationship started friendly with multiple instances of working on tasks together however ended abruptly with Alec being dismissed due to varying opinions on a few matters. Now Alec sees Galena as completely business oriented and would put sales before all else and the most frustrating part to him is that she would probably see that as a compliment.

Keleon Morticius LaCrux de Alcides VII

Keleon or Kel as Alec calls him is one of Alec's favorite pathfinders and if asked Alec would define him as a friend. Although Alec first thought of him as young and impulsive Kel has shown an impressive intellect in his fields even if they are mostly magic based instead of tech based. Alec isn't very interested in magic compared to tech but thinks all people's knowledge is important and impressive. After seeing Kel's skills Alec sees him in a different light as a dependable colleague while working at Pao-Yang and now just a dependable friend after leaving the company. When Alec received a concerning message from Kel one day he tried to ask about Kel's whereabouts and reverse trace the message signal because he wouldn't want to see his friend in danger but it was unfounded as Kel responded soon after that it was a false alarm for the most part.

Ae'thir

A lighthearted pathfinder who is into the same interests as Alec most interactions are just exchanging notes or Alec requesting to see how Ae'thir built a certain machine. During the ReTreat dinner Alec played Uno with Ae'thir along with several other pathfinders. The fact Ae'thir carries around an Uno deck with him was funny to Alec.

Euna

Alec really enjoys talking to the lovingly named "mayo" Euna because she is so dependable no matter what. although after multiple interactions now Alec is worried it is forced so whenever he gets a break in his work he plans to grab Ariane and probably Kel then go bring Euna to have some fun for once. Originally Euna seemed hesitant about Pao-Yang due to their nature of gun manufactures but maybe their overwhelming charm knocked those suspicions away.

Mercutio

The mysterious basement dweller of the anchor. Through the communicator logs he seems like a nice person making communicators for those in need and keeping Anchor oiled and safe. They haven't had many interactions but Alec saw her briefly at the ReTreat event before unfortunately disappearing for work or something idk.

Shay

The first member of the Voices Alec met during the Infernal Signal event. Having been holed up in an ancient city for ages when he saw a person with sculk implants his first thought was to give them warden meat. This lead to Shay talking for the first time and after Alec impressively lied and immediately got caught about his identity ended up interested in this group of people who followed the heart. Shay seems to reciprocate either a friendship or mutual understanding as those who follow the path

Priestess Ilma

During the meeting following Ilma's arrival Alec could sense Ilma like a reverberation or feedback from echolocation. While he didn't get to talk to her Alec was upset at the other pathfinders for mercilessly injuring her with tear gas at a supposedly peaceful meeting.

Penumbra

Very magical research oriented individual. He seems to spend most of his time cooped up in his home which i have yet to locate but during the ReTreat event it seemed like a turning point in his mentality. He opened up and spoke excitedly with the mayor. He seems like a nice guy hopefully Alec can meet him seriously and possibly even help him with his research.
