"I may be dumb, but I have an idea." — Alec
Alec is a Thalassan mechanic and inventor from the world Pelagia. He is a factory operator for the Pao-Yang guild. He was inducted into the guild at the same time Ariane was and is mostly there to pick up new tinkering techniques and to show off his expertise.
Appearance
A fish boy whose appearance resembles a lionfish with spines for hair and fins adorning his forearms and legs. He has a scar bridging his face from a particularly uncooperative invention and a flying piece of scrap metal. He wears a jumpsuit with overalls on top for efficiency over fashion to reach and store his tools easier.

Early Life
Alec is a Thalassan hailing from the world of Pelagia. He grew up alone never knowing his parents. In his early years he resorted to snatching food from stalls to survive. Ever since he can remember he has been surrounded by technological marvels of every kind one can imagine and some that you can't even imagine in his home in the Twilight Stratum. Being constantly surrounded by the razor edge of technological advancement as well as social norms Alec was instilled with a deep interest in inventing and an insatiable thirst for learning more about whirring gears and whistling engines. After his knowledge reached a low professional level he switched to selling creations instead of stealing. As Alec grew up his interest developed into an almost addictive craving for advancement and did anything in his grasp to test new and groundbreaking ideas even if the fallout could lead to his own detriment. This lust for advancement left him with more than a few scars and burn marks that acted like a ledger of all his failed experiments and inventions gone wrong.
Comet and Pao-Yang
After years of building frustration due to failed gadgets and not even being able to leave his name in the footnotes of history an interesting guest entered the door of his shop looking for supplies. A Ferran while not common wasn't the weirdest thing that had ever walked into his store but their story was where they had Alec's interest. Exiled from their home world they had outfitted a comet with tech and were riding it across the universe. This almost laughable tale piqued his interest and so not really having anything tying him down to Pelagia, Alec asked to join for the journey. He decided seeing more of the known universe could give inspiration to new ideas and there could be worse ways to spend the journey than with a like minded tinker. After getting confirmation he was welcome Alec grabbed a few essentials and set out with the one he learned was named Ariane. The two floated across the stars on the comet, modifying it with all sorts of machines and over time they became good friends. Eventually a traveling merchant showed up and offered a spot on their ship and seeing as it didn't hamper any of his goals Alec decided to join the growing merchants guild.
Arriving on Locus Astra
With Pao-Yang smelling profit to be gained from the venture to Locus Astra, the guild sent 5 members on the original voyage to the anchor. Alec is among the members and has been tasked with setting up automation of basic materials to fuel the material reserves for larger projects.
Personality
Alec is a friendly gear-brained scatterminded guy who loves to talk about machinery and likes to meet new people but if the conversation steers towards magic or boring small talk then hes more than likely going to zone out. He holds no interest in magic since it cant be explained easily like contraptions and science can be. Willing to talk or take building jobs from anybody who asks but try to cut an unfair deal or mess with his factory and he will hold that grudge forever.
