"No other place feels this free." — Caelune pilot

Pronounced “strah-tos”, Stratos is a sphere composed of vast floating islands suspended above an endless abyss, connected by powerful wind currents that shape both geography and culture. Travel is dictated by the skies, with airships and the native gliding species, the Caelune and Sonyx, navigating the invisible highways formed by these currents. Life here is precarious, balanced between the highs and lows, where a single misstep can mean an unending fall. The inhabitants of Stratos have adapted to this instability, building cities that cling to the sky itself. It is a world where freedom and danger are inseparable, with its low gravitational fields allowing those who reside there to reach for the skies.

Geography and Environment

Stratos is almost entirely comprised of floating islands above what appears to be an endless void. These islands tend to be plain and grassy, but others can vary. These range from floating forests to floating mountains and rocky plains.

Gravity is low on Stratos.

Stellar Information

Stratos is located in the Unmoored star system, and resides within the Unmoored energy field.

Stratos only has two moons, but each has shown to be relatively influential. One is larger and close, its gravitational influence helping to stabilize the layer of floating islands where civilization exists. The other is smaller and orbits somewhat erratically, providing the shifting nature of the wind tunnels. These two moons work together to influence the sphere's climate, and the way of life of those who live there.

Stratos has no rings.

Notable Historical Events

Stratos fell victim to the folly of monoculture farming in the past, when a disease wiped out much of their crops and led to a famine. This famine permanently reshaped the biology of those who lived there, leading to the Caelune and Sonyx no longer developing wings that would enable flight.

Caelune islands also exhibited a religious revolution at some point in the past, which led to the subsequent collapse of much of its academic and scientific institutions. It is still recovering from this.
