The Check Mates are a band of outlaws that are a general nuisance on Locus Astra, despite not exactly being... a threat.
Mission Statement/Principles
The Check Mates seem to be imitating a classic Western band of outlaws, and seek to enact grand plans to steal and claim territory and items in the name of a mysterious entity known as the 'Queen'.

Checkers is a Caelune gunslinger who can't actually use a gun very well.
Blitz
Blitz is a short-statured mouse Lagoran who is the crew's inventor and technician. They also are proficient in cheesemaking!
History
According to them, they arrived on Locus Astra before the Pathfinding Initiative, but after the HSC sent the Build Bots (outrunners) to construct the initial Anchor. As for how they arrived... 'ship'.
