"He's a fascinating one, DeLott. He's one of the most dedicated people I've ever met. But he's a bit... weird. Nothing wrong with weird, but you tend to notice it pretty quickly." -Dr. Jaeris, Auphelm R&D
Sh'wasai DeLott, more commonly referred to as Dr. DeLott, is a reputable surgeon and researcher back home. Having both a Doctor in Medicine and Biological Sciences, DeLott tends to dabble in both fields when he's able. While he tends not to take credit for his involvement, he has been associated with several breakthrough studies, such as the development of the Quolopox vaccine.
When word of the Pathfinding Initiative got to DeLott, he decided it would be a great opportunity to expand his horizons, and lend much-needed medical expertise to the Pathfinders. Of course, it wouldn't hurt if he did some research as well...
Appearance
DeLott is a greyish-green Thalassan with darker scales across his body. He has pink eyes, brown hair and gills along the sides of his head. He also has a fairly muscular build for a doctor, even if it's hard to see since he chooses to wear a lab coat most of the time. He attributes this to being prepared, in case something should arise. I can't imagine how many of those coats he brought with him. Although it seems like he never sleeps, DeLott shows no physical signs of fatigue or exhaustion.
Personality
DeLott is a bit of a workaholic. He gets absorbed into his work so often that he tends not to socialize much with other. Of course, this has led to him being a bit awkward in social interactions. He stumbles on his words, or misspeaks sometimes, but he's generally able to get his points across. He also tends to be brutally honest, even when it is a bit inappropriate. Despite his social blindness, he is very committed to the well-being of others. DeLott has always found it easier to commit himself to helping people with his work since he believes he isn't able to on a personal level. He's also very inquisitive, as he does not like to have unanswered questions.
"You ever get an itch that you can't seem to scratch? I get that all the time. There's so many things I want answers to, but it's hard to find them. It doesn't help when the answers I want are kept away from me. It really... can I swear here? Whatever, I just like knowing things. It is half the battle after all." -Dr. DeLott
Of course, DeLott does have his distaste in certain things. His most notable disdain is with bureaucracy, as he believes that more often than not it gets in the way of helping people who need it. He also tends to disrespect high authority figures, especially when they try to prevent him from conducting his work. At the end of the day, DeLott believes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, so he's more than willing to oppose people who prevent him from catering to the many.
History
Education
DeLott had a very unconventional education, having enrolled in two separate universities for two separate degree programs at the same time. Because of this, he ended up earning both of his degrees around the age of 28.
"He was top of his class. Of course, I didn't know he was taking 8 classes at a time. It's almost a bit terrifying how he managed to keep it together through that. I guess the results speak for themselves, don't they?" -Professor Ulyen, Wohlar University
After graduation, DeLott accepted a part-time job at Auphelm Research & Development. He also found work at Galvurn Medical Center close by, bouncing between jobs for the forseeable future.
Professional Career
Despite working two jobs, especially jobs as mentally taxing as his, DeLott found a way to manage. He'd work day and night with his team at Auphelm, and then walk into Galvurn the next day without so much as a yawn. While it did creep out some people, most of his co-workers recognized and respected the contributions he was able to make under these conditions. However, DeLott tended not to take credit for these contributions himself. No one knew exactly why he didn't want credit, seemingly not even himself. When asked about it, he usually waved it off and stated that he was more interested in helping people than getting credit for it.
"You wanna know what I think? I think he doesn't want people pestering him over it. And I get it, the amount of suckers that come up to me and tell me I'm wrong about something I researched and that they're correct, it's exhausting. Guess I'll never know for sure though." -Dr. Purreli, Auphelm R&D
DeLott kept up his routine for years, balancing his research with his medical commitments with few issues. DeLott did find himself involved in some controversy in recent years, after a former patient of his went missing. The person in particular, Viva Ferrul, was operated on by Dr. DeLott at Galvurn Medical Center after her appendix had burst. Shortly before this surgery, Ms. Ferrul had contracted Quolopox, a rare disease that has the highest mortality rates in children aged 3 to 9. Due to the lack of evidence, DeLott was acquitted of any accusations made against him. However, after this whole affair, DeLott decided to take a step back from his positions and pursue other opportunities.
Pathfinding Initiative
While scoping out new work, DeLott had been recommended to join the Pathfinding Initiative by a former professor. Despite his distrust for the High Stellar Council, DeLott decided that joining the initiative would give him a good opportunity to find a new outlet for his talents on Locus Astra. It would also give him some much needed time away from home, giving him a fresh slate with a new crew of people to work with.
Relationships
Amaranth
"She's nice. I actually met her when we first landed on Locus Astra, but I had forgotten about it for a while until I saw her again. She's... probably the only person here I've really interacted with. I guess that's what happens when you're sat researching for weeks on end. It is nice to talk to someone else who's researching sculk though, a good opportunity to compare notes."
Euna
"Was there an election? Ah, probably put in place by the High Stellar Council. Figures. Haven't spoken to her personally, but she always seems at the end of her rope. Do we really want someone like that leading us? And don't get me started on how we've already got two dead Pathfinders under her watch."
Henry
"He seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I've read up a bit about the Wayfarer's Guild before coming here, it's surprising to see how well-adjusted he seems after... well, everything really. He really likes taking pictures though, something about incriminating people. Concerning."
Mercutio
"He always seems to pop up. I helped him clear out his... whatever he has under the Mayor's office the first day we got here, and now he'll just appear around the place. It's a bit terrifying. Can't get a good read on the guy otherwise. Maybe I'll just leave him to his work."
Orbit
"What is that thing. What do you mean it can smell memories. The less I'm around it, the better honestly."
Raspberry
"Not to be mean, but she is definitely a loud mouth. A nice loud mouth, but a loud mouth nonetheless. Her heart's in the right place, but I think she should learn when to keep quiet. Assuming someone hasn't silenced her already."
Savanah Crest
"A High Stellar Council crony. Very uptight, very rude. And we're expected to be defended in court by her? Yeah, I'll take my chances defending myself. They'll just give those degrees to anyone, won't they?"
Shay
"Definitely a weird one, but so, so fascinating. He's incorporated the sculk into himself, but how does it affect him? I wish this whole sculk group wasn't so vague, there's so much that can be learned from them. Maybe he'll loosen up over time. Although, with how our relations are currently, it might take a while."
Sherazi
"I tend to respect fellow doctors pretty easily, but she's been through it. I want to pry more about this place since she'd know the most, but I don't want to cross any boundaries. I trust that she knows what she's doing at least, even if she does report to the High Stellar Council. I hope for both our sakes that they actually have our best interests in mind."
The Priestess
"No comment."
