Generally smaller in stature, the kingdoms of the Lagorans consist of various rodent types, from rabbits to mice and beyond. Individuals are characterized by their ears, tails, varied sizes, and fur. As there is a great deal of diversity among them, cities are designed to be as accessible as possible in order to accommodate all walks of life. They vary in size based on species, and some can grow horns and antlers of their own as they age, signaling their common ancestry with the Cervari. Similar to the Cervari, social standing and kind deeds are very important in Lagoran society, as they also must learn to live in harmony with their planet’s interconnected, living ecosystem. WHile they are not as tied to mana and magic as the Cervari are, they are often incredibly adept at picking up new skills, and many become engineers and scientists. Some mages certainly exist among them, but unlike the Cervari, they do not tie mana to their horns. Losing their horns or antlers is more of a social shame rather than having drastic effects on their ability to cast magic. While they also have good relationships with other races, they are less social than the Cervari, generally being a bit more reserved in nature. Lagorans are excellent artisans and masters of trade, making vast progress in developing transport technology and emergency logistics. Their extensive burrow systems, trains, hypertubes, and portal technologies were instrumental in allowing the universe to remain interconnected. Most tend to be quick thinkers.

Core Worldview

Lagorans share an optimistic view, having a struggle in their first few years they fought for their survival against brutal winters, and it wasn’t until two individuals known as The Father and The Lady, whom help guided the Lagorans down underground where they would no longer fear the bitter cold of winter and instead thrive deep underground.

Physiology and Design

Coelho Alto [Alto]- Tall and less diverse than their shorter siblings, the Coelho Alto are more focused on agriculture and culinarian skills, burrowing deep into the soil in their large underground farms, using the warmer temperatures underground and Sun Lamps invented by the Rato Baixo to help provide a more potent harvest, the Coelho Alto tend to worship The Father of The Harvest, a legend of a man whom managed to feed their people through a harsh winter by farming deep underground, inspiring the Lagorans to move underground to avoid the winter, Coelho Alto are the more dominant Subspecies of Lagorans on the planet Rato Baixo [Rato]- Short and stout, these rat like folk whom tend to travel in small groups, while they share their fascination and desire for spicy food like the Coelho Alto, however their interests lean more towards gemstones and metals, finding themselves mostly being Jewelers, while others harvest herbs and focus on the studies of alchemy, finding more potent ingredients underground as well as more shiny gemstones. The Rato Baixo worship a former individual known as The Lady of Discovery, a woman whom took risks when it came to anything, learning how to make several potions, as well as take the first steps into the underground for a warmer place to stay during the winters The Alto tend to live much longer then most Rato, almost doubling their life spans (Alto live up to 150 years, while Rato can live up to 75-100 years)

Social Structures and Community

Lagorans live in a large cavernous cave network they have called Toca, its within their city where they focus on their craft and cooking, having massive kitchens and restaurants, as well as one large Alchemy Lab hidden in the underside of the city where most if not all alchemist work. The Lagorans have a Monarchy based system, their leader known as a Rei, King of the Toca, if the Rei is unable to have an Heir and must elect someone new into power, the Lagorans choose via election.

Religion and Spirituality

While The Lagorans do believe in the Nullstar, they worship two individuals who had saved their kin from the harsh winters, known as The Father of The Harvest, and The Mother of Discovery, The Father was once an abnormally large Alto who help fed the people with warm and spicy meals, it wasn’t until he heard a whisper from the stars that made him lead the Lagorans down underground, where the warmth of the planet's core had kept them safe from the harsh winters.

The Mother of Discovery was a Rato who was curious about many things, she had learned the ways of Alchemy through eating of strange herbs that grew in The Fathers farms, she took notice on how more potent and stronger the ingredients gotten the deeper underground she cultivated them, and it was because of that discovery she found Gemstones of immense value.

Technology and Science

While they were more relaxed on the technological scale, they had focused on more of their trade craft and luxury goods, learning culinary, goldsmithing, alchemy, and farming skills. One of their major inventions is The Cervejaria, a massive alchemy station located under Toca, used by most alchemists to brew and invent different potions.

Traditional Clothing and Fashion

Alto tend to wear more loose and colorful clothing, able to beat the heat while they tend to their farms, they sow the different colors into their clothes based on what kind of crops they farm. Rato will wear much more baggy clothes, with darker colors with splashes of other colors mixed in, usually wearing a gas mask or goggles on their attire.

Lagorans will always have pieces of jewelry on their clothes and on their bodies.

Occupations

Amongst the Lagorans, no one is 'fit' for a certain job, moreover any Lagoran can take up any position with enough time and work.

  • Alchemist: Brews potions and herbs for the populus, while also making drugs for other worlds to ingest.
  • Cooks: more popular occupations in Toca, they take passion in their cooking skills and spices to heart.
  • Farmers: the most common occupation in Toca, they feed most of the people of Toca.
  • Goldsmiths: commonly filled by Ratos, they work on turning gemstones into fine and pretty Jewerly.
  • Merchants: Found in the streets of shops of Toca, they sell their wears to travelers and others in order to turn up profit, usually bartering or paying with Moeda.
  • Caravaners: Leaders of large packs of Lagorans who travel across Velora to the other cities that exist, usually riding atop large capybaras.
  • Engineers: Few Ratos work with machines, however those who do usually do it well.
  • Gleaners: Ship captains of the Merchant ships, they are commonly filled by Alto’s because of their longer life span and high charisma.

Starships and Space Travel

Once space travel had become available to them, they began to seek ways of trading with others among the stars, so once available they had set up trading stations orbiting around the planet, their ships looking more boxy with bright colors sprayed onto their hulls. These ship merchants are called Gleaners, commonly these roles are filled by Altos for their longer life spans for the long space travels they have to do, however after warp travel was added, Ratos started flooding into space to sell their gemstones and herbs.

Cultural Quirks and Daily Life

  • Once it is Rei's date of birth, the people in Toca gather to celebrate via a large feast, dancing, and painting..
  • Some Alchemist have made exotic drugs, while it isn’t legal on Velora, they have managed to smuggle it off world for others to ingest
  • Most Lagorans have a taste for spicy food, while others won’t be able to handle the spice as easily.
  • Lagorans cannot vomit what so ever
  • Altos have a much longer jump, while the Ratos have half as many bones, allowing them to squeeze into any small space
  • Lagorans are mostly vegetarians, however they can eat meat but will likely get sick afterwards

Notable Locations

Toca: where most if not all Lagorans come from, a large underground city filled with Markets, restaurants, and spicy food.

Efusão: a large trade station orbiting around Velora, where most merchants go to send out large scale shipments across the stars to share their culture and goods.

Squeakers: a more popular tavern in Toca, having Rato maids serving customers mostly while Alto’s work in the kitchen, their slogan being “its on the mouse”, they also are known for their extremely spicy meals.
