"If your character has something cool to say, add it here." — Character Name

The founder of Polaris. After a very bad series of events, she's been on a lucky streak that has carried her across the stars and into one hell of a crew.

Appearance

Short, lavender hair, long eyelashes and purple eyes. Has a large neck plumage

History

Early Life

Cassandra grew up in Hab Block G of Chitara, and has always dreamed of the stars. A tough dream to have on Chitara, since the only view of the night sky is either a small glimpse from a space port, or from the planet’s apocalyptic surface, but Cass dreamed none the less. Dreamed of the spirals of stardust, of a sun that no longer shone with enough light to warm a planet. Dreamed her way into enrolling into M-Corp, a corporation specializing in purging the fungal infection on the surface, keeping the space ports from being overrun.

Military Career

Cass took to the work at M-corp exceedingly well. The flame belcher, a weapon of fear for infected and infected alike, sung in her hands. Steadily her squad built a reputation for consistency, succeeding on tougher and tougher missions no matter what the infection or their corporate overlords threw at them. Where most M-corp recruits die or resign within their first 6 months, Cass’ squad stayed together without any losses for a whole 5 years. This perfect record was ruined during the collapse of Hab Block G.

The Trauma incident

It wasn’t supposed to be possible. The Fungus was strong enough to crack armor once it was integrated enough with a host, sure, but to crack through 2 feet of solid steel, buried a quarter mile under the earth no less, it was a situation that should never have happened. In the aftermath of the incident many theories were thrown around about how it happened. A centuries old mine brushing up right against the Hab Block's outer shell filled with rock-breaching explosives maybe, or an eccentric arms manufacturer who joined the hive mind without resistance, granting them a tremendous boost in firepower. The most conspiratorial of Chitarans would point the fingers at the Corporations themselves, intentional sabotage to preform an experiment. Whatever the reason, Cass doesn’t care, it doesn’t change what happened. While Cass’ team was away defending a spaceport once again from a fungal incursion, a massive hole opened in the ceiling above Hab Block G, spewing bulbs and infected bodies all across the space. There was no warning, there was no escape. In one horrible moment, almost everyone Cass had ever loved was doomed to a fate worse than death. As soon as Cass’ crew was finished with their mission clearing the Space Port, her squad was scrambled to purge the breach, fight back the fungus before it could spread to other Hab Blocks. Despite the apocalyptic nature of the event, it should have been a relatively easy mission. The sheer horror of the situation meant they were sent in without the drawn out negotiations typical to M-Corp’s workings. This meant the Infected did not have time to mutate into anything too serious, and they were permitted to use an unprecedented level of equipment. In practice though, Cass’s team was already worn out from their last mission, and not experienced fighting in the labyrinthine corridors and streets of the hive cities. It was a slaughter. For every block taken, another squad member fell. Skewered through a second story window, grabbed from a maintenance port dropped upon from the ceiling. There were too many angles of attack. Cass trudged on though, Flamerthrower screaming almost as much as she was, torching the haunted memories of her childhood. She was the only survivor of the incident, hailed as a hero.

Early days space traveling

With everything she fought to protect reduced to ash and cinders, Cass turned to the only thing she had left, her love for the night sky. Cass took all the money she had earned over her 5 year military career, bought a freighter and headed for space. The first couple years Cass spent off-world were mostly spent wallowing. Flying from dive bar to dive bar, drinking herself into a stupor. This started to change when Cass met Portobello at a dive bar. A small hole in the wall on Eden, nothing was particularly special about it other than the peculiar looking Bartender, a strange figure with all its features in the wrong place and a fungal frame that brought back bad memories. Their drinks lacked the synthetic tinge common to Aurelian drinks though, and Cass couldn’t fly to another sector without risking sobering up, so she stayed, had a drink and got to talking. It was a more agreeable interaction than Cass would have expected, but eventually the night spiraled down and it was time for Cass to head off to the next planet. Before long though, Cass ran into Portobello again, this time at an old pub on Caelune. This continued for over a year, Cass roaming between bars on different planets, only to find Portobello serving as bartender. Over time they built a friendship, and Cass began to lighten up. Running low on cash and needing a less destructive pass time, Cass took up using her freighter for its intended purpose, and started shipping cargo. Her years spent visiting the back end of almost every planet in the shared universe meant she has a lot of connections to people who have reason to not go through more… official channels for their courier needs, and her ship was faster than most so jobs weren't too difficult to come by.

Founding of Polaris

One such job took Cass to Singulon where seven years of slapdash maintenance combined with the planet’s strange gravitational properties finally did the ship in, resulting in a rather violent landing, and mild maiming of Cass. Out of money and options, Cass went ahead and finished her delivery and promptly collapsed in an alley. Fortunately though, a passing doctor by the name of Amaranth. Cass’ luck continued as the doctor helped her back to her ship, as an eccentric engineer had decided to repair it on a whim. Grateful to the strangers who had saved her and happy for the company, Cass invited the two Gelums to join her, forming the group Polaris.
